This antique copper lavabo or cistern and sink is unsigned, but presumed to originate from France and date to approximately 1890 and done in the period French Provincial style. The six sided cistern is ornately decorated with a contoured top with impressed and repousse stylized ferns and a spire shaped handle. The front of the cistern is decorated with a repousse heart accented with beading and stylized foliage. The basin is done with a simple rolled rim and tapered sides. Both the cistern and sink are hand-crafted and mount to the wall. This lavabo has been converted to a garden planter or ornament and the previous owner did a folk art water color painting of how it was used. Please note that one spout is missing and has been plugged as presented.
