This delicately detailed set of four allegorical porcelain plaques portrays family scenes within the theme of the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Spring can be identified by the three figures festooned with garlands of flowers; Summer depicts the farmer with a scythe holding a bundle of wheat whilst he cradles his wife and child; Autumn shows the child being fed grapes while his parents appear flushed and drunk with the father drinking from a jug of wine; and Winter shows figures huddled in blankets.
Each of the four plaques is set in a gilt frame, and each are marked to the reverse with the blue crossed sword marks of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory.
